Harris County search: understand what a “no result” does not cover
The Harris District Clerk search is not a Houston-wide criminal-history declaration
The official criminal background search states that its results are Harris County records and do not include federal cases, cases from other counties, Justice of the Peace records or municipal Class C records. It also warns that accuracy depends on the data entered. If a first/last-name and DOB search returns no data, the clerk describes a certified letter-of-disposition route when the required identifying information is supplied.

Create or use the public search account
The Harris search service currently requires login/registration for public case information. Public case information itself is described as free after login.

Capture the cause number and case style
For a criminal file, save the exact cause number, party name and date of birth when used. Those identifiers make the later copy request more reliable.

Select the needed image/document

Request certification only when needed

Houston Municipal Court is a separate lane
What to provide
The Municipal Courts records office asks for identifiers such as defendant name, date of birth, driver-license information or case/citation number depending on the request.
What it can issue
The municipal court publishes both certified and noncertified record-request options and currently lists a certified Letter of Disposition product.
Why it matters
A municipal Class C matter can be absent from the Harris District Clerk criminal-background search because the systems cover different courts. Search the court that actually handled the case.
HPD reports answer incident and arrest questions, not final court outcomes
Offense / incident report
HPD publishes a public-information route for police reports and explains that disclosure can be limited while an investigation is open. A police narrative does not establish conviction.
Arrest record
HPD’s request guidance asks for subject and incident/arrest details so the department can locate the record. Keep the arrest record separate from the court docket and disposition.
Clearance / criminal-history requests
HPD says it no longer processes general clearance letters and directs criminal-history questions to Texas DPS. That is a strong routing signal when the task is broader than an HPD incident report.
